Home Go Teach

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20).

Answering Questions Youth are Asking

Jesus gave instructions to His disciples before ascending to His Father in heaven. Those guidelines were embedded in a command Christian's call the "Great Commission" (Matthew 28:19-20).

"I want to know Jesus as my Saviour and Lord. I want to know His plan for my life. How do I fit into His sovereign will, His design for the 21st century?"

This important command is "great" because it was given at the peak and climax of Jesus' earthly ministry. It is a "commission" because of the One who gave it - He who has all power and authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).

The Great Commission has two primary emphases, each being equally important. Jesus' first requirement of His disciples is to "GO." The second obligation is to "TEACH." It takes both to achieve His objective and to meet His demands. Walking in complete obedience to these instructions fulfills Jesus' expectations of every believer.

The first emphasis is "going to make disciples" which involves proclamation, baptizing converts and discipling them, and planting churches.

The second emphasis "teaching to mature believers" involves instruction in all of the commands of Christ and bringing the believer to maturity. The apostle Paul makes this clear in Colossians 3:28, "He (Jesus) is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ."

GO...TEACH, A Great Commission Series for Youth, integrates the missionary mandate with Bible studies. It is designed as a teacher's guide. Each issue centers around 2 subjects with a total of 16 studies.

"My life has a divine destiny. I want to be a channel of blessing. I know God's Word, the Bible, will instruct me. How can I discover these truths unless a teacher guides me?"

Studies 1, 6 and 10 build a biblical foundation for the Great Commission and highlight a tribe (language group) for the purpose of prayer. A picture of a person from that tribe and a brief story is included with each study. The teacher is encouraged to take a few minutes at the close of each session to pray for the selected tribe.

The Great Commission studies and the introduction to various unreached tribes are written by Jerry Falley. The other Bible studies are adapted from Radiant Life curriculum used with permission from Gospel Publishing House, 1445 N. Boonville Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65802, USA. GO...TEACH is published by Africa's Hope, Springfield, Missouri, USA.

All Scripture references are taken from the Holy Bible, New International Version, (Copyright ©1973, 1978, 1984, 2011).

"Jesus is a wonderful Saviour. I love Him very much. I want to please Him in every way. I want others to meet Him and hear the message of salvation. I want to understand the Bible so that I can be His messenger. How can other young people be saved unless I share with them?"

The overt intent of GO...TEACH, A Great Commission Series for Youth, is to advance Jesus' Kingdom by making disciples and assist in maturing born-again believers through teaching. Our objective is expressed in the Lord's Prayer, "Your kingdom come, your will be done" (Matthew 6:10).

May this presentation showing the two primary emphases of the Great Commission, to "Go" and to "Teach," be a blessing to you as a teacher. An understanding that going and teaching work hand-in-hand is essential in fulfilling Jesus' command. As you study, pray and teach, may a rich anointing of the Holy Spirit rest upon you.
